Week in Review: February 20-24

In math, we are working on perimeter and time. We are also spending a lot of time on solving word problems involving multiplication and division.

In language arts, we are learning how to use Powtoons to create Public Service Announcements about our PBL research. The best ones will eventually be shared on our daily school news program. Mr. Weiler came in to teach us the ins and outs of this program.

In science this week, we reviewed from our water cycle and weather unit and had a test on Thursday. We reviewed with an interactive activity where students pretended to be drops of water moving through the water cycle based on statements they selected from different stations. For example, they have may have begun as a water droplet in a cloud, and then fell into a stream as rain. Or they might have been absorbed into a plant's roots and helped it grow, before eventually being evaporated into water vapor. It was a great way for them to see how the cycle works!

Friday was a fun E-SLOT time as we used the school set of Ozobots for the first time. Students program these tiny robots to follow a path drawn with markers. Different color patterns result in the Ozobot doing different motions, or lighting up a different color. I tied this into our math unit by challenging students to create paths with a certain area, or to create specific geometric shapes.

Only two weeks of school until spring break! Next week, we will have a practice STAAR math exam on Monday. I also wanted to let you know that I will be out on Thursday so that I can attend my son's first grade field trip. I hope everyone has a great weekend!
