Week in Review: September 24-28

This week in language arts, we wrapped up our first unit on fiction and personal narrative. Students published their first personal narrative and I will be using those writing samples as I set goals for your child and prepare for our conferences on Monday October 8. Poetry is our next unit!

In math, we are working place value for up to 4 digit numbers. We are also continuing to learn new strategies for adding and subtracting numbers, as well as how to solve word problems involving addition and subtraction. Students uses strip diagrams through an online tool to help them visualize how to solve the problems.

In social studies, we are continuing to learn about good citizenship, and the rights and responsibilities we have as citizens. Next week, we will do some online research about important historical figures as we learn have communities have changed over time.

In science, we learned about mixtures by making a couple of our own mixtures to sample...trail mix and lemonade. They enjoyed that treat, so thank you for all who donated supplies to make our learning fun! We also spent one science day exploring how to separate matter at some hands on stations.

We ended the week on a fun note with E-SLOT. Students designed and created paintbrushes. The challenge? To create a brush that could paint skinny line, thick line, and dots. They came up with some creative solutions and really enjoyed the process!
