Week in Review: October 23-27

This week in science we completed investigations on light energy (discovering with a radiometer), heat energy (the effect heat has on molecules with a food coloring experiment), and solar energy with our solar ovens to make s'mores. We also dealt with some wind energy that day...that made for some exciting adventures! We will have a test on Monday or Tuesday over the types of energy, and will do an online review just before taking the test.

We are continuing to read and write lots of poetry, and have learned about lyrical and humorous poems this week. We also learned about poetic devices such as similes, metaphors, and alliteration. We also worked on inferencing and visualizing skills through poetry. Students wrote poems using all their senses, as well as poems about their families. Be sure to ask your child what they compared your family, and you, to! They had some creative ideas!

In math, we have been continuing to work on multiplication of 10s, 5s and 2s. We will continue multiplication for one more week, and probably have a test the following Monday.

On Friday, we got to visit with our kindergarten buddies for the first time. They worked on a "My Buddy and Me" book to get to know each other. We will meet with them once a month.

I hope everyone enjoys the cooler weather this weekend! It is hard to believe we only have three weeks of school until Thanksgiving break!
