Week in Review: January 30 - February 3

This week in language arts, we wrapped up our reading unit on traditional tales with a test on Friday. I also began doing a mid-year reading assessment to see how each student has progressed so far this year. This testing will continue over the next couple of weeks. We have shared our fiction stories in small groups, and given compliments and suggestions to each other. We will publish the final stories next week.

In math, we had a test over fractions, area and geometry, and then moved back into multiplication and division. We started with the easy facts (ones and zeros), and then moved onto the nines by the end of the week. We will continue with multiplication and division problem solving over the next two weeks.

In science, we have begun learning about the water cycle, and how the sun plays such a critical role. Students have created individual diagrams of the water cycle in Google Drawings, and next week, we will import those drawings into a website called Thinglink where students will be able to insert "pop-up" definitions on their diagrams. I will share their completed projects on the blog!

Economics is our big focus now in social studies. As you know, students will be participating in an Economics Fair next month, where they will sell a product they create at home. Project ideas are due to me by Friday February 10, and a half page went home with students this week that they are required to fill out explaining their idea.

It is so hard to believe we are already in February! Just a reminder that our field trip is coming up on February 10, and a Valentine's Day party on the 14th. It's going to be a busy, fun month! I hope you all have a great weekend.
