Week in Review: September 10-14

This week in math, we focused on different addition strategies. We used base 10 blocks to help us visualize the compensation strategy. We also practiced using a number line for addition, and breaking apart a number to make it easier to add. Ask your child to show you which strategy they prefer to use!

In science, we wrapped up our first unit on matter with a test on Wednesday. Next, we will learn about changes to matter.

In social studies, we are still working on government, and students were super surprised to come back after specials on Friday and find themselves boarding Air Force One to fly to Washington DC for a tour of the White House!

And finally, we are continuing work on our personal narratives in writing. Students are working on adding more details to their writing, and next week we will focus on leads that grab the reader's attention.  During our reading time, we are working on skills that good readers use such as asking questions and summarizing, while I am continuing to test each student individually so I will know their strengths as a reader.

Friday, during our E-SLOT time, we celebrated "Dot Day" with several fun projects. Most of them needed time to dry, so you will see them coming home on Monday.
