Week in Review: November 27 - December 1

We had a busy week with some very special guests. Mr. and Mrs. Brown from California talked to 3rd graders about their scuba diving experiences. They even brought in a great white shark jaw so the kids could get an idea of how big they really are!

We also enjoyed a visit from local author / illustrator, Don Tate.

In math, we took a quiz over fractions and everyone did really well. Ms. Lampkin then introduced division to the students. We are working on the understanding that division is simply dividing a total into a certain number of equal sized groups.

In science, we began a new Project Lead the Way unit on forces and flight. Students designed gliders and tested to see how far they could fly. They were then able to redesign their glider to find out what shape wings and horizontal stabilizers worked best.

In social studies, we are continuing our studies of maps and government. Next week, we will learn about the three branches of government.

In language arts, we are continuing to learn about different expository writing structures. Students worked in small groups to write essays about why Nurse Michelle is so important to our school. Beginning next week, they will write an essay on a topic of their own choice.

Only three weeks until winter break! Don't forget to join us to see Wonder this Sunday afternoon at 1pm at Cinemark Cedar Park!
