Week in Review: April 27 - May 1

This week in science, we enjoyed watching a live web presentation about owls. We followed that up with dissecting an owl pellet through an online interactive tool, and then dissecting one real pellet as a class.

We also spent one morning in the common area with Mrs. Swyers' class, closely examining a flower and a cactus and discovering the similarities and differences they have in their structure.

And finally, we spent some class time preparing for our Earth Warriors assembly which will be on Friday May 8. Students researched about the Great Pacific Garbage Patch and we created our share of a slideshow that will be shared with the entire school.

For language arts, we spent the week focused on our realistic fiction stories. Students revised their rough drafts after conferencing with me, and then published their final copies. Friday was an exciting day for us, as our class poetry anthologies came in and we held an informal "Publishing Party" with the entire grade level in the common area. Students were able to share their writing with others and see what the other classes did.

In math, we are enjoying our financial literacy unit and learning about incomes for various careers, as well as how to create a savings plan to deal with unexpected expenses. I don't think its ever too early to start learning the importance of budgeting and saving!

Next week will be a BUSY week with a guest speaker on Tuesday, early release at 12:45pm on Wednesday, our field trip on Thursday and the assembly we are leading as a grade level on Friday. Whew! It wears me out just thinking about it. Have a restful weekend!
