Week in Review: October 31 - November 4
Our week started off with Halloween on Monday, so we spent our science time exploring pumpkins! Students practiced estimating, measuring, weighing and other observation skills.
This week in language arts, we have moved on to non-fiction reading and writing and we spent a couple of days exploring the features of non-fiction books, such as an index, glossary, maps, and captions. We are now researching the country of Sweden for International Children's Festival.
In math, we began a unit on fractions, and my students already have a solid grasp of the basics.
In social studies, we spent the week talking about the three branches of government, including next week's presidential election and the voting process. Students got to participate in a mock election, after listening to 4th graders talk about the election. We also even went for a mock flight on Air Force One to fly to Washington, D.C. so we could tour the White House.
It was a fun week, and so hard to believe that there are only two more weeks before Thanksgiving break. Have a wonderful weekend!

Week in Review: October 24-28
We wrapped up so many units this week: poetry in language arts, multiplication in math, and forms of energy in science. Next week will be the start of expository (non-fiction) reading and writing, natural resources in science and fractions in math. Along with unit assessments in each of these subjects, students also had their first spelling test on Friday. They will get a new list of words on Monday, and the next test will be Friday November 11.
This week was super busy with early release on Wednesday, Every Artist Live day on Thursday, and an author visit by Aaron Reynolds on Friday. Also on Friday, we explored with "squishy circuits" during E-SLOT time. Next week, we begin a new round of E-SLOT groups for 4 weeks.
I will just let the pictures below speak for themselves. Enjoy, and have a wonderful weekend!
