Next, we moved onto the study of matter. Students logged onto Stemscopes for the first time, which is our online science curriculum. They were able to review matter vocabulary terms, complete an interactive investigation, and then read a passage and answered some basic comprehension questions for a grade...all done online!
In language arts, we have spent the week brainstorming writing ideas and doing some quick writes from those topic ideas. We are discussing making connections while we read, and have done some online research about hurricanes, in light of our recent weather events. I am still continuing with individual reading testing, and they are doing great about working independently while I focus on that.
In math, we are nearing the end of our unit on data and graphs. We will have a short quiz next week over the material. We have also been reviewing numbers on a number line, as well as more place value and addition practice. We were lucky this week to have Ms. Lampkin, a UT teacher intern, begin joining us. She will be with us each Tuesday and Wednesday for the fall semester. On Tuesday in math, she worked with one group on dot plots, while I worked with a second group, and a third group worked on the laptops. It's great to be able to work in small groups for more individualized attention!

Number lines are much more fun when you get to draw them on your desk! |
We ended our week with E-SLOT on Friday, where students got to build circuits with the Snap Circuit kits. It was a fun way to wrap up our short week!
