Week in Review: September 25-29

Early in the week, we were sad to say good-bye to our friend, Jadyn. He is moving, and we gave him cards to wish him well at his new school. He will be missed!

One final class picture with all 24 kids!

Silly faces!

This week in science we have been studying changes to matter. We've done two hands on experiments to learn what happens when heat is added to a solid - ice! We've also done an interactive investigation online through Stemscopes.

In language arts, we are revising our rough drafts by trying to add more descriptive words, and using a strategy called "Show Don't Tell." Be sure to ask your child today about how I taught them this today. Here's a hint: it involved me storming into the classroom pretending to be very, very mad! They were certainly relieved when they realized it was all an act! :) We have also been working on inferencing skills and summarizing this week in reading. We spent one morning in the common area with Mrs. Swyers' class, looking at pictures and writing about what we could infer from the details.

Mrs. Lipe's and Mrs. Swyers' example of how to have a silent conversation about inferences from a photo.

In math, we are learning different strategies for addition. Ask your child to show you one or two ways they can now add 3 digit numbers.

Using a number line for addition.

And finally for social studies, we wrapped up our Class Preamble, and learned about our country's flag, including the significance of the stars, stripes, and what each color represents.

I hope you all have a great weekend! I will leave you with the photos from our first indoor recess for the first time on Friday. While it wasn't raining, it was just too wet and muddy to go outside!
