I am posting this week's update a day early, as we will be on a field trip on Friday.
In math, we continue to work on multiplication and division, of facts through the 10s. We've learned a couple of new fact fluency games this week that are great at reinforcing quick recall of these facts. Reading and understanding word problems is also a huge part of this unit.
In science, we are still studying and observing weather. We also finished up our Thinglinks on Monday, I hope you had a chance to look at them on the previous blog post. If not, scroll down to the prior post to check them out!

Working on inserting pop-up definition on our drawings in Thinglink. |
Our economics unit in social studies is going well and this week we learned about assembly lines firsthand. Ask your child how much faster his/her group was able to create 10 bookmarks in an assembly line, compared to just one on their own.
|
Making individual bookmarks, and timing how long it takes working on our own! |
|
Showing off our first bookmarks! |
|
Preparing to begin the assembly line. |
|
And the timer begins! How fast can the assembly line create 10 bookmarks, while still maintaining strong quality control? |
|
Our first group to finish in just 5 minutes, 13 seconds! |
In language arts, students performed reader's theater folktales early in the week. They enjoyed creating props and setting the scene for their stories! We also tied our science unit into reading by delving into a non-fiction article about weather predicting.
This week has just flown by, and I am looking forward to our field trip tomorrow, as well as next week's Valentine's Day party. Don't forget to help your child create a box or bag to collect Valentines in, as well as bring a class set of Valentines to give out if they wish to participate. We have 22 kids this year. Have a great weekend!
