Week in Review: January 11-15

This week in science, we learned about earthquakes with graham crackers and frosting. Students modeled tectonic plates shifting in various ways over "magma" frosting and we discussed the changes that can make to our earth's surface. And then of course, we ate the tectonic plates and magma!

We also built models of volcanoes outside (beautiful weather this week!) and observed what happened when they erupted. We ended the week with a test over landforms and changes to the earth's surface.

In language arts, we took an expository composition through the writing process from planning and drafting, to revising and editing, and then a final copy on Friday for a test grade. We read biographies in book clubs, and then students had their choice of three final products to create to share with me what they learned about the famous person they studied.

In math, we are continuing our study of area, as well as reviewing perimeter and geometric figures.

Just a reminder, this is a three day weekend as RRISD observes Martin Luther King, Jr. Day on Monday. We will spend our social studies time next week learning about his significance.
